After many months of planning we are pleased to announce that our new website is up and running.

The launch of the new website allows us to showcase some of the fantastic work we have produced since Brewster Bye Architects was formed in 1992.

With our 20^th Anniversary in 2012 we are working on a number of special events throughout the year and will be giving additional support throughout the year to our chosen charities St. George’s Crypt and Leeds Community Foundation. More details to follow….

After a successful 2011 we are looking forward to 2012 with great optimism and we will be continuing our Partnership with both our existing and new clients.

Tenants Hall Enterprise Centre now open

October 2011 saw the official opening of the Tenants Hall Enterprise Centre in Middleton, Leeds. It provides a physical presence in the heart of one of the City’s most deprived communities and is the primary vehicle through which an enhanced Leeds LEGI Programme will be delivered in this area of South Leeds.

The new centre acts as a ‘hub’ encouraging and stimulating entrepreneurialism and self-employment within the target communities. Networking and hot desk space are provided for new businesses, as well as office accommodation for up to ten additional commercial and social enterprises with meeting and crèche facilities also provided.

Planning Permission for 30 affordable homes in Barnsley

Planning Permission has now been secured for our Priory Road scheme in Barnsley for delivering 30 affordable units with Yorkshire Housing and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. The scheme will go out to Tender in early December with an anticipated start on site date around March 2013. This one of three large housing projects which Brewster Bye are currently delivering for Yorkshire Housing with the others being Oakdale Drive, Bradford for 26 units and Havercroft in Wakefield for 37 units.

The Priory Road development will achieve Code Level 3 and achieve a 13% reduction Co₂ levels above the current Building Regulation requirement.

The style of the development will be contemporary in its design and offer families the chance to live in spacious well designed units. The highways design which takes the cue from the Manual for Streets incorporating pedestrian friendly access and shared servicing, comprehensive landscaping and high quality external materials.

The project completion will be in June 2014 within an expected project value of around £3.5m.

Major new development granted planning permission

Planning permission was recently granted for a major new residential development for Leeds Federated Housing Association (LFHA). The 16-unit scheme will be built on the site of the former West Grange Road Social Club in Belle Isle South Leeds.

Derelict for years, West Grange Road Social Club fell into disrepair becoming problematic for the site’s owners, Leeds City Council (LCC). This is where local housing-provider LFHA stepped in to acquire the site for redevelopment and reverse its fortunes. Brewster Bye Architects and LFHA worked closely with LCC’s Housing development office, local Ward Members and residents to draw up a scheme of 16 houses, varying from 2-bed bungalows to 4-bed family housing. West Grange Road is one of LFHA’s largest schemes in the area to date and answers an acute need for family-housing in the area.

Built in the 1930’s, much of Belle Isle was conceived in the model of the early 20^th century Garden Cities such as Letchworth and Welwyn. The scheme design continues this long tradition of well-built brick-built housing that is robust yet characterful and employs the bricklayer’s skills to the full. The scheme is designed to meet Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, Lifetime Homes and Secured By Design standards ensuring environmental and social sustainability now and into the future. The development is currently out to tender and is due for completion in December 2012.
