St Leonard’s Place is an iconic crescent of Regency townhouses, built in the 1830s. The crescent is a Grade II* listed property. But at 170 years old, it required a huge investment to restore and bring back into productive use. Residential use was seen as appropriate but not all of the former properties could be readily converted back into townhouses and a scheme was developed around a mix of five townhouses, 29 apartments and six mews homes. The client’s brief was for contemporary high standards of living with the retention of period features. The renovation works were carried out with extensive consultation with English Heritage and York City conservation department.
