The Grove development has two key elements: the refurbishment of the existing former hospital and a new-build extension. The hospital, used during the early part of the 20th Century, had become derelict and was in a very poor state of disrepair. The comprehensive renovation works enabled the design to include a central communal area which contained day-care facilities and a restaurant. These are designed to be utilised by the residents within the adjacent Extra Care flats as well as serving the wider older persons community from the surrounding area. The refurbishment also contains 15 respite suites and offices for The Abbeyfield (Ilkley) Society.

The new-build element consists of 42 one & two bedroom apartments, some of which have south facing balconies, located in a five storey block connected by a glazed link to the retained original hospital buildings. The materials used are traditional local stone for the external walls and a natural slate roof in keeping with the local vernacular.
